Michael J. Rodriguez, M.D. FAACS
Medical Director, Board Certified Cosmetic Surgeon
Miami native Michael Rodriguez, M.D. FAACS attended University of Miami Miller School of Medicine where he received surgical training with a specialization in head and neck. Dr. Rodriguez continued his training in cosmetic surgery at the prestigious University of California Irvine, working closely with Southern California and Beverly Hills Physicians. Returning to his hometown, he completed additional fellowship training in cosmetic surgery of the breast and body. Currently a fellow of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, the doctor is also double-board certified by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery and American Board of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery..
The physician has published numerous scholarly articles in his field and is committed to continuously furthering his training. As a result, he is able to provide his patients with a spectrum of interventions, including skin resurfacing with peels and laser technology, lipostructure (fat grafts), and eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), as well as low-downtime face, neck, and endoscopic brow lifts. Additionally, Dr. Rodriguez has extensive training and expertise in rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty.
Rafael Gonzalez, Ph.D.
Senior Scientific Advisor, Board Member
Dr. Rafael Gonzalez, Ph.D., brings to Gentera his extensive background in degenerative disorders involving the spinal cord, as well as stem cell culture and biology from human embryonic, perinatal, and adult sources. Through his comprehensive research pursuits, he pushes the boundaries of science while remaining mindful to his staunch code of ethics and standards.
Gentera's Senior Scientific Advisor and Board Member began his academic career at the University of California Irvine, earning his bachelor of science degree in Biological Science and a doctorate in Neurobiology. While earning his Ph.D., Dr. Gonzalez led preclinical studies, leading to the startup Ability Biomedical, which developed an anti-P 10 antibody to treat several degenerative disorders, including multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and spinal cord injury. The startup has since been acquired by Bristol-Myers Squibb.
As a Research Scientist at PrimeGen Biotech, Dr. Gonzalez was responsible for developing PrimeGen’s preclinical stem cell/spinal cord injury model.
John Wilkerson, M.D.
Chief Orthopaedic Surgeon
John Wilkerson, M.D. leads Gentera’s orthopaedic surgical division, providing diagnostic and therapeutic services to manage bone, muscle, and joint conditions with an array of treatment options, including stem cell therapy, PRP injections, rehabilitation, arthroscopic surgery, and minimally invasive surgery. The board-certified orthopaedic surgeon has been performing PRP therapy for the treatment of orthopedic injuries since 2005 and bone marrow aspirate stem cell therapy since 2010.
A fellow of both the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, he graduated and completed his residency at the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University. Following sports medicine fellowship at the University of Miami, he served as Assistant Team Physician of the 2001-2002 National Champion University of Miami Hurricanes football team. Dr. Wilkerson completed clinical research in arthroscopic shoulder surgery, published in the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow, as well as additional research in orthopaedic surgery and biomechanics, published in multiple peer-reviewed medical journals.
Dr. Wilkerson sees regenerative medicine as the vanguard of 21st century health care, recognizing the potential of techniques that activate the body’s natural cellular healing mechanisms.
Amar D. Rajadhyaksha, M.D.
Board Certified Spine Surgeon
Fellowship-trained orthopaedic spinal surgeon Dr. Amar D. Rajadhyaksha, M.D. is the director of the Miami Spine Institute (MSI) and is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. The Boston native completed a general surgery internship and orthopaedic residency at New York Medical College. He went on to train in adult reconstructive surgery at Cornell’s highly ranked Hospital for Special Surgery. In addition, the doctor completed an adult and pediatric spine fellowship at the world-renowned NYU’s Hospital for Joint Diseases under Dr. Thomas Errico.
The classically-trained spine surgeon has always had a special focus on research and in advancing the field of orthopaedic surgery. He has a specific interest in minimally invasive surgery (MIS). Prior to starting residency, he completed a research fellowship at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions and Institute for Advanced Orthopaedics in Baltimore, Maryland. He has published over one hundred peer-reviewed abstracts, manuscripts, internet publications and book chapters and given presentations at various local, national, and international meetings. He has received research awards from the National Institute of Health (NIH), American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), and Eastern Orthopedic Association (EOA).
Marcela Salgado, M.D.
Medical Regulatory & Compliance Manager
Marcela Salgado, M.D., senior research coordinator at the University of Miami’s Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute, is an authority on cell therapy protocols, which she develops for Gentera Center for Regenerative Medicine. Dr. Salgado has demonstrated her authority in the cell therapy field, publishing in numerous publications, especially focused in the area of cell therapies for wound care. The physician has expertise in translational stem cell therapy research, as well as the strict management and provision of cell therapies in clinical settings, with a special focus on dermatology and pathology.
The physician develops, improves, and implements various aspects of cell-based therapies in compliance and quality programming following FDA regulation. She has extensive experience in FDA-approved clinical trials.
In addition to performing complex academic research, Dr. Salgado has obtained two research patents involving human mesenchymal stem cells. She has worked as a medical administrator in the private sector where she developed best practices in administration, lab work, and regulatory compliance. Leveraging both her subject matter expertise and administrative efficiency, Dr. Salgado contributes an immediate and measurable impact across multiple aspects of Gentera’s operations.
Katherine Zagone, N.D.
Medical Director, HRT & IV Nutrition
Katherine Zagone, ND brings her passion as a healer to her role as Gentera’s Medical Director IV Nutrition. In her addition to her role at Gentera, the naturopathic doctor has a thriving practice at Orian Wellness in Carlsbad, California, where she has innovated The Holistic Fertility Method, her signature comprehensive program to assist patients in uncovering and addressing underlying fertility issues, an approach that also encompasses nutrition and movement.
Since graduating at the top of her class at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, Dr. Zagone has assisted in the training of the next generation of naturopathic doctors at San Diego’s Bastyr University California. The doctor has authored content for Orb Health and consults with practices throughout the United States on bringing naturopathic and anti-aging medicine to patients.
Dr. Zagone, an elite guest lecturer, has spoken at University of California San Diego and throughout the community on topics including fertility, hormones, detox, micronutrient therapy, and gut health. She brings her commitment and expertise to every aspect of her practice and brings that dedication to Gentera Center for Regenerative Medicine.
Fary Ramos, M.D.
Aesthetic Treatment Provider
Board-certified internal medicine physician Dr. Fary Ramos brings extensive training and experience in the non-invasive aesthetics and rejuvenation fields to Gentera Center for Regenerative Medicine.
The physician shares her passion for the art of medical aesthetics at Gentera. Dr. Ramos offers a variety of non-invasive rejuvenating and anti-aging procedures designed to improve the skin's appearance from Botox®, dermal fillers and platelet rich plasma (PRP) facials to collagen induction therapy (micro needling).
Dr. Ramos's approach matches her philosophy of "Medicine and Art, All in One," which she expresses through her devotion to each of the procedures she performs at Gentera. She believes health and beauty start from within – and that educating her patients about nutrition as well as skin care is essential to achieving the best results from any procedure.
The physician is committed to keeping up to date on the latest advances in the aesthetics field, pursuing training in cutting edge treatments with experts from renowned institutions and physicians. Her holistic approach and commitment to the most effective treatments available provide results for her patients.
Nutrition & Dietician Counselor
Registered dietitian, nutrition counselor, and certified diabetes educator Sabrina Hernandez-Cano specializes in cardiac and diabetes education with a specialty in cardiovascular and diabetes education. Her background includes experience as a cardiovascular nutrition educator for Berkeley Heart Lab and at the Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute at Baptist Hospital.
Hernandez-Cano is frequent contributor to media, appearing on ABC News, NBC, Telemundo, Univision, and WLRN-TV for segments on nutrition, wellness, and diabetes. She is a member of the Academy of Dietetics and Nutrition and the American Association of Diabetes Educators.
The graduate from Florida International University is currently in private practice, counseling in all areas of medical nutrition therapy with a specialty in bariatric nutrition. She is the founder and CEO of Scientific Nutrition, a company dedicated to developing nutritious snacks such as Hummingwell wellness bar, designed to promote a healthy lifestyle. The company has added a line called “Que Flaca” – a movement to educate, empower, and promote wellness in the Latin community.
The dietician has traveled on missions to Africa, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, and the Cayman Islands to address topics including malnutrition and childhood obesity.
Co-Founder, Chairman of the Board
Gentera's co-founder and Chairman of the Board, Louis Arriola believes regenerative medicine is the future -- and sees his role as providing a platform to the doctors of Gentera to help patients to live a "more balanced and healthier life."
"As I started to age, I always looked for an alternative to conventional medicine. When I found regenerative medicine, I discovered that not too many people knew about it. So, my goal was to help others to know that aging is not as bad if your body is in balance," he says.
Arriola brings a successful background as a strategic business professional and financier to Gentera. In 2016, the global telecommunications he built sold for over $300 million. With his wife, he owns the Los Angeles-based NYLA Productions, as well as Trionx, a real estate development company.
Gentera's co-founder was considering surgery when a shoulder surgery irritated him during workouts. He was educated on cell therapy and regenerative medicine, which cured his injury. "I knew then that I had to let other people know there were alternatives," he says. "It's very gratifying to know that I'm helping people."
Co-Founder, Chief Executive Officer
Consummate entrepreneur Brian Pla began his career in the financial industry as co-founder of a foreign currency trading firm. He has invested in a range of ventures, including telecommunications. Brian entered the medical realm with his investment in Ulthera, an FDA-cleared, non-invasive medical procedure to lift and tighten the neck, chin, and brow, improving lines and wrinkles on the chest. Applying his affinity for pioneering technology, he introduced PRP into Ulthera's offerings, expanding options for non-invasive and minimally-invasive procedures.
Brian Pla co-founded Gentera to focus on regenerative medicine, backed by a research team led by industry-renowned experts to bring Gentera's practices to the forefront of advances in both cell-based therapies and regenerative medicine. Under Pla's guidance, Gentera maintains its commitment to bringing effective regenerative medicine protocols to patients, supporting patients to enhance health, wellness, beauty, and longevity.
Brian was introduced to cell-based treatments after experiencing a sports-related injury. The successful outcome ignited his professional pursuit into next-generation, regenerative therapies.
